Intro to the south - The Drive Down
Ohio,
when you let your eyes defocus,
could be described as an amalgamation of grays, greens,
and cool browns.
A common sense of damp leaves, ticks,
and venison.
Away,
on the stretch of road between-
Albuquerque and El Paso
let your eyes relax once more,
to find a new palate,
of warm browns and pink earth.
Towered by the blue of a sky
that holds sunlight. Only then,
does one gets a small taste
of the new world
they are bordering on.
. . .
It wasn’t until I had to leave for this co-op that I found myself unable to drive.
There's no better time to learn stick shift than a fifteen-hundred-mile trip cutting across Indiana with a straight shot down through Missouri, Oklahoma, and New Mexico. Taking three days, two nights, and what the Motel 6 and stretches of deserted highway had to offer. Where gas stations only seem to appear when needed, and billboards advertising lawyers, Christianity, and barbecue are far behind.
The roads part sandy mountains and run parallel to dilapidated farm houses with flocks of skinny horses. There is a formulated sense of the old west. Even the sun feels different and more direct. I feel that I am driving towards a heartbeat, not of my own- but some rhythmic, new song.
Once again, thank you for joining me, this blog continues it’s standing as a living document and testament to my co-ops and life as experienced during my time at Antioch College cerca 2020.
