Chinatown
Chinatown
Chinatown. The one near center city Philadelphia drew me first. Every time I visit, there are activities, festivals, and someone singing along to an erhu. I usually pop in just to see what's going on, what groceries are on sale, and to loiter.
It's interesting to see the inter-economy of herbal medicines, fresh fish, travel agencies, tea shops, dollar stores, lamps, and jade.
On the sidewalk I stop and lean against a brick wall. I close my eyes and listen to the exchanging of pleasantries in a language I do not know, the sweet song looming behind, and find a moment to bask in the time that, for the most part, has already gone.
